Meet Sandra

Thank you for visiting. Here’s a little more about the person, neighbour, volunteer, and leader behind Sandra’s work for Ward 1.
Waterloo is home.
Sandra and her husband Greg have lived in Waterloo for more than 30 years. It’s where they raised their four daughters—Kaitlin, Sarah, Maryn, and Paige—and where their family is now growing into a new generation.
They are enjoying life as new grandparents. Their family also includes a canine contingent of six dogs, shared across their daughters’ homes and their own.
When the girls were young, they attended Mary Johnston Public School, Centennial Public School, and Laurel Heights Secondary School. Sandra and Greg supported their involvement in synchronized swimming, diving, soccer, and hockey—as coaches, volunteers, and proud parents.
Important things happen because people show up.
I believe so many important things simply could not happen without volunteers. Over the years, Sandra has volunteered with local sports clubs, health organizations, community groups, and boards across Waterloo Region.

Sandra’s career spans health, social services, and disability sectors within the Region, Ontario, Canada, and internationally.
She is currently an Executive in Residence with Capacity Canada. She has served as CEO of the Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network, COTA Health, and VON WWD. Her work as a health-care executive with Healthcare New Zealand gave her a deeper understanding of Indigenous peoples’ issues and health-care services internationally—and the chance to experience life in New Zealand.
In 2008, Sandra received the Oktoberfest Outstanding Business Woman of the Year Award.

During Sandra’s first two terms, hundreds of new, affordable housing units have become available. More are planned.
Traffic-calming initiatives have made our neighbourhoods safer for pedestrians and vehicles. Traffic circles are being adjusted to be safer as well. She met with neighbourhood associations, homeowners’ associations, and community groups to understand residents’ priorities. That listening continues to guide her approach: hear varying viewpoints, find common ground, and take action.
